The Louvre

The Louvre is probably one of the most famous art museums in the world, and is certainly among the largest (it may very well be THE largest). Formerly a palace for kings, it's now been converted into a museum that houses (among many many other things) the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Winged Victory. Before actually going, it's quite hard to imagine how large this museum is. To give you an idea, I spent 6 hours straight going through the museum. I didn't see the whole thing, but instead just browsed many of the wings. The only places I really spent a lot of time were the places that really interested me.

This museum was the main reason I came to Paris, but I actually found I liked the Orsay museum more. While this had a lot of history and famous works of art, it was quite overwhelming.
