The Orsay Museum
The Orsay Museum is number 1 on my list of things to see in Paris. I expected to enjoy this one, but not nearly as much as I actually did. First off, it's in a great location. It's right down in the middle of Paris, right next to the Seine river, right across from the Louvre museum, and very close to lots of shopping and restaurants. Second, it's in a beautiful building. You enter into a huge open area full of sculptures. The sides are divided into smaller rooms for paintings. It's a former train station, but you'd never know it. And most importantly, the art. While this collection is considerably smaller than the Louvre (it only took me three hours to go through here, even though I was going rather fast), but I found the art housed here to be much more my style. If you have time to see only one museum in Paris, I suggest this one.
